An Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) tagline is a short statement included in federal contractor’s job advertisements, indicating their organization will not discriminate against any job seeker based on gender, race, veteran status, disability, etc.

During the implementation process for new JobTarget compliance customers, we find many customers have an incorrect EEO Tagline in their job advertisements. To help the federal contractor community with their EEO Tagline requirements we put together some helpful tips. Here are some important details to note regarding EEO taglines:

You can use a long or a short version EEO Tagline.

  • Example of a compliant short version of an EEO Tagline - “EOE, Including Disability/Vets”
  • If a federal contractor adds sex, race, religion, etc. to the short version, then the long version must be adopted.

If the long version is used, all the categories must be listed to be compliant.

  • Example of a compliant long version of an EEO Tagline - “All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.”

It is also important to note that the EEO Tagline needs to be in all job advertisements, and not just listed once on the federal contractors’ careers page. For additional information on EEO Taglines, please read the OFCCP’s document on Postings & Notice Requirements.
